Following is a statement from Judy Conti, director of government affairs with the National Employment Law Project:
“NELP condemns the confirmation of Andrea Lucas to chair the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Lucas is not suited to serve on the EEOC.
“During her tenure as acting chair, Lucas made it clear that her priorities lay with following President Trump, not with enforcing the law or supporting workers facing discrimination. She abandoned transgender workers and workers with records, ignored the law and Supreme Court precedent in favor of Trump executive orders, and abused the power of the agency in service of Trump’s political agenda.
During her tenure as acting EEOC chair, Lucas made it clear that her priorities lay with following President Trump, not with enforcing the law or supporting workers facing discrimination.
“Workers will keep fighting to prevent Lucas and her allies from gaining the majority they need on the commission to further roll back hard-won civil rights protections. The Senate must act to protect the EEOC as an independent guarantor of our civil rights at work.”
