NELP Pledges to Fight for Workers’ Rights, Demand Corporate Accountability, and Pursue a Good-Jobs Economy Under Trump Administration

New York, November 6, 2024 – In the wake of Donald Trump’s election as the 47th President of the United States, the National Employment Law Project (NELP) reaffirms its steadfast commitment to advocating for workers’ rights and building a good-jobs economy. By raising the floor for wages, benefits, and job conditions; building worker power and pushing back on corporate influence; bolstering enforcement of worker rights; and advancing a just and inclusive economy where all workers have the opportunity to thrive, NELP will continue working to ensure that every single job is a good job, and everyone who wants a job can get one.

As we face unprecedented challenges to workers’ rights, NELP stands in unwavering solidarity with workers and our allies, and we are ready to defend pro-labor policies advanced by the Biden-Harris administration. We will redouble our efforts to safeguard policies that protect working people, and promote corporate accountability and   fair tax policies that don’t place undue burdens on working families while the ultra-wealthy and corporations disproportionately benefit. We will be particularly vigilant where unionized labor, children, immigrant workers, federal employees, and working families are concerned.

“Workers’ rights and economic justice are central to a thriving, multiracial democracy and a good-jobs economy,” said Rebecca Dixon, president and CEO of NELP. “Regardless of the political landscape, we will continue to speak truthfully about the conditions that foster real economic growth and equality, and we will press forward with policies that empower all workers, protect the most vulnerable, and hold corporations accountable for their impact on our economy and society.”

In the wake of the election, NELP reaffirms its commitment to fighting for workers’ rights and building a good-jobs economy.

As our nation moves forward, NELP will advance our agenda and be vigilant about attempts to attack workers’ rights, such as the rollbacks proposed in Project 2025:

  • Defend Labor Standards: NELP will defend our nation’s labor standards, including the Biden-Harris administration’s actions to strengthen them, against efforts to undermine them and relegate workers to lower pay, overwork, and more dangerous conditions.
  • Support Union Workers: NELP will fight against any rollbacks of collective bargaining rights and stand firm with unionized workers who are essential to a strong middle class and a resilient economy. Unions are a vital force for fair wages, job security, and safe workplaces, and we will resist efforts that threaten their integrity and effectiveness.
  • Protect Child Labor Laws: NELP will vigorously oppose any attempts to weaken child labor protections. As child labor violations and injuries rise across the country, we will demand stronger standards that prevent minors from being exposed to hazardous and exploitative work conditions.
  • Advocate for Immigrant Workers: Immigrant workers are integral to our nation’s labor force, and attacks on undocumented workers are thinly veiled attempts to divide us. NELP will defend policies that protect immigrant workers from discrimination, wage theft, and exploitation, upholding their rights—and all workers’ rights—to safe and fair workplaces.
  • Defend Federal Employees: NELP stands firmly with federal workers, who ensure the functioning of our government and provide vital services to the public. Federal employees deserve fair treatment, protection from political interference, and a workplace free from discrimination. We will oppose measures that erode the rights of federal workers or undermine their ability to serve the American people effectively.
  • Demand Corporate Accountability and Fair Taxation: Corporate accountability and fair taxation are cornerstones of economic justice. NELP will continue to push for policies that close tax loopholes for the ultra-wealthy and ensure corporations pay their fair share, preventing an unfair burden on working families. We will stand against policies that prioritize corporate profits over fair wages, worker protections, and environmental responsibility.

Together, with our allies and workers across the country, NELP will remain a determined voice for justice, equality, and a good-jobs economy where all workers thrive. Despite the challenges ahead, we will continue to push forward, promoting policies that bring the voices and needs of working people to the forefront of policy at the local, state, and federal levels.
